Staff Professional Dress and Identification Standards
As educators and leaders, our professional appearance reflects our role as mentors to students and representatives of the wider Marymede community. These standards ensure we maintain a safe, professional environment that strengthens the community’s perception of the teaching profession.
1. Identification and Safety (Compliance)
- ID Cards: All employees, CRTs, student teachers, and authorized visitors must wear their Marymede ID card in a visible manner at all times while on duty (including offsite events).
- Yard Duty Requirements: * Visibility: Fluorescent yellow vests must be worn.
- Sun Safety: Wide-brimmed hats are required. Sunscreen and sunglasses are strongly recommended.
- Primary Staff: Must carry their classroom First Aid bags.
2. Minimum Professional Standards
All staff are expected to maintain neat, tidy, and role-appropriate business attire.
- General Attire: Standards should mirror the expectations we set for students. Ties are required for male staff in Terms 2 and 3, but optional in Terms 1 and 4.
- Inappropriate Items: * Jeans/denim, hoodies, board shorts, and leggings.
- Revealing tops (strappy/singlet styles, tank tops, camisoles). Tailored sleeveless tops are acceptable.
- Clothing with inappropriate logos, language, or product promotion.
- Length & Coverage: Professional attire must ensure no exposure of the midriff, cleavage, tops of legs, or underwear. Dresses and tailored shorts should be knee-length.
- Seasonal Items: Beanies are permitted outdoors only during Terms 2 and 3.
3. Footwear
Footwear must balance professionalism with OH&S compliance:
- Permitted: Closed-in, non-slip shoes secured behind the ankle.
- Prohibited: Runners, sneakers, thongs, and casual street shoes. Open-toed shoes should be avoided.
- Specialist Areas: Staff in the Trade Centre, Materials/Digital Technology, and Maintenance must wear steel-capped safety shoes.
4. Piercings and Body Art
- Body Art: Must be covered at all times where practical.
- Piercings: Visible piercings are limited to earrings and one small nose stud. Other visible piercings should be removed during working hours.
5. Role-Specific Uniforms
Staff requiring specific Marymede-branded items must purchase them from Bob Stewart (Uni Hill). These cannot be ordered online.

| HPE & Sport (Secondary) | Official Marymede PE Uniform. To be worn only on days with practical classes or sporting events. |
| Sport (Primary) | Official Primary Sport Uniform. May be worn on days supervising or participating in sporting events. |
| First Aid Station | Black nursing scrubs with the Marymede logo and “Nurse” embroidery. |
| Maintenance | Charcoal cargo pants/shorts, Ash/Black polo, and Navy softshell jacket. (Ordered via Northern Workwear). |
| Trade Centre | High-visibility Marymede polo shirts, work pants, and safety boots. |
| Science / Arts / Tech | Protective clothing (lab coats/dust coats provided) and safe footwear. |
6. House Polo Shirts
- New Staff: Entitled to one House Polo upon commencement.
- Existing Staff: Entitled to a new polo if their House changes or as a replacement every four years.
- Ordering Process: 1. Request a Purchase Order from the Accounts staff in Administration.2. Present the Purchase Order at Bob Stewart (Uni Hill) for invoicing.
- Note: Free House Polos cannot be ordered online.
7. Special Events & Camps
For non-teaching days, camps, or retreats, the Principal or Leadership Team will provide specific guidance regarding appropriate dress standards via email.
