Victoria’s Child Safe Standards at Marymede Catholic College

The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our most fundamental responsibility at Marymede Catholic College. We are unequivocally committed to creating and maintaining a child-safe culture where every student is protected, respected, and empowered to thrive.

Our Legal and Moral Obligation:

Victoria’s Child Safe Standards establish mandatory minimum requirements for organisations that work with children. These standards are enshrined in law and reflect our community’s expectation that children have the right to be safe and feel safe in all educational settings.

What are the Child Safe Standards?

The eleven Child Safe Standards provide a framework for preventing and responding to child abuse. They require organisations to embed child safety in leadership, governance, policies, procedures, and everyday practice. The Standards encompass cultural safety for Aboriginal children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disability, ensuring that every child’s unique identity and needs are respected and protected.

Our Commitment:

As a Catholic educational community, our commitment to child safety is grounded in the Gospel values of human dignity, justice, and compassion. Every staff member, volunteer, and contractor at Marymede has a responsibility to uphold these Standards through vigilance, appropriate conduct, and prompt reporting of any concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

All staff must understand their obligations under the Child Safe Standards, including mandatory reporting requirements, appropriate professional boundaries, and the processes for responding to disclosures or concerns about child safety.

Together, we create a community where children are heard, valued, and protected—because their safety is non-negotiable.
